About Weight Loss Surgery

So, you might be wondering, exactly what IS weight loss surgery?

Weight loss (or bariatric) surgery is the area of surgery that is devoted to weight loss.  The word "bariatric" comes from the Greek word "Baros" for weight.  The bariatric field of surgery treats people who are suffering from health consequences as a direct result of excess weight, when other measures to lose weight have not worked.

Surgical treatment for morbid obesity most often involves operations on the stomach and small bowel, which restrict the person's ability to eat, thus promoting weight loss.
