Design Challenge I
What is Design Challenge I? Create a logo using just your initials (or just one initial if you prefer). You can start with any font and do anything with it you want... use as many different programs as you want. The only requirement is that you use Windows Draw in some way... which means ANY of the bundled applications including Draw, PhotoMagic, & Instant 3D. Include with your submission a little blurb on how you did what you did... what programs you used, what you learned from the project, etc. Also specify if you would like your name included with your submission on the website or if you would prefer to be anonymous.
This is not a contest so there will be no judging... the purpose is simply to give you a specific goal to explore what you can do... and see all the results of what each person comes up with, and hopefully learn a little in the process.
Have fun!!! |

And here are the results..... |

Created by Mike Frieman-- Created entirely in Draw6 with the goal of being eye-catching but simple. No font was used -- rather, I wanted to truly start from scratch, so I created filled shapes and used the Snap-To-Grid feature to keep everything to scale. The actual file I use is in WMF format because it is completely scaleable and because it is, unlike the DRW format, recognized accurately by almost all programs. The areas that are white in this GIF are transparent in my WMF so that it can be placed over any background.

Created by Deb Williams-- I created various shapes over a letter template until they matched the letter. Then I removed the outline and filled each one with colors that would follow a pattern when animated. I also used a hollow frame with a gradient fill for the border.

Created by Jonnie Britton-- I learned about placement of lettering and aligning things. I love the look of fancy monograms and I found this pretty font Rothenburg Decorative that is too fancy for anything else!

Created by Judy Johnston--
- Initials are in Shelley Allegro BT font and rendered in Instant 3D, then the teal background was sliced with a circle in Windows Draw.
- Silk ribbon flowers I made myself were scanned in and cleaned up/isolated in PhotoMagic, and the background colour dropped out in WD.
- The circular rope frame is a .wmf file from Masterclips that was sized and coloured to match the background of the initials.
- The linear rose border is a .wmf file from Masterclips with the line and fill modified in WD to match the other borders.
- The square background is a picture of teal waterglass from the Spectrum Glass Company that was cropped and sized to fit in WD.
- The picture was cropped again and a final border was applied in Paint Shop Pro.
What I learned: - Instant 3D is awkward and laborious to use--there are newer programs that make 3D rendering easier--but it's okay for simple text and objects from the catalog they include with the program.
